Dear Blogger Buddies:
It has been a strange week in our world. Things got ugly, and they got crazy. But I think we can all learn some blogging tips from what went down.
We started our week with Josi Denise telling us that our “mommy blog fucking sucks.” OUCH! That is pretty harsh criticism from a fellow blogger and someone that has probably never read our blog. Of course, according to Josie, nobody else has read it either.
Josie’s post made a lot of bloggers angry. After all, that was what Josie wanted. Unfortunately, some of us expressed their anger in public and unbecoming way that just reinforced Josi’s rage against us.
Then something strange happened to vlogger Jaime Sullivan. She found out vlogger Monica Alvarez was copying her videos word-for-word. She was even copying Jaime’s body gestures. Not only is this unethical, it is just plain creepy.
Both of these incidences made me think of Donald Driver’s speech at the 2014 Disney Social Media Moms conference. He asked a simple question: Do you blog for attention, or to change someone? If you are blogging for attention, that attention could be good, or it could be bad. And if you are blogging for attention, you are blogging for the wrong reason.
Both Josie and Monica are blogging for the wrong reason. They are doing it to get attention. Not only do they want attention for their original (or not so original) post, they are both now trying to get attention as a “victim” because people are calling them out on their bad and unethical behavior.
Thankfully our week ended on a fabulous high. This video by blogger Candace Payne has gone viral. Literally overnight, she has had 20 million views. Let me say that again. TWENTY MILLION views.
Candace didn’t make this video with the intention of gaining attention. She made it because she found something funny and wanted to share. Her laughter and joy are genuine, and she deserves every bit of attention she receives.
Blogging Tip: Strive to be a Candace. By remaining authentic, and blogging for the right reasons, not only will we bring joy to our readers, we will bring ourselves joy also.
Blog on friends,
