What the heck is a Fish Extender? You might find yourself asking this question if you go on a Disney cruise.
The name comes from the hooks outside of each cabin. On the Magic they are shaped like a Fish.
At some point a group of Disney fans decide to start swapping goodies with other passengers. This led to what is now called a Fish Extender Gift Exchange. The actual Fish Extender has pockets that hang and extend from the fish. The pockets are where you deliver your gifts.
People participating in a Fish Extender gift exchange will get a list of cabins and the ages of all the participants. Here are some of the gifts we made for our Fish Extender exchange.
For the toddlers, we made seek and find bottles. We emptied water bottles and filled them partially with rice. (I was afraid if I filled them all the way they would be too heavy in our luggage.) We then added little buttons shaped like fish, shells, and other sea life as well as Disney Squinkies. We put a list of the contents on the side of the bottle, so parents could help their kids with the search.
For the young girls we made hair bows. The older girls got princess notebooks & pens, and the older boys got arcade gift cards.
I made clipboards for each pair of adults and attached a different colored highlighter for each family member. That way the adults could use the clipboard to hold their daily Navigator and use the highlighters to mark the activities for each family member.
To find out if there is a Fish Extender group for your cruise, visit The DISboards and search the cruise forum for your cruise date. You will probably be directed to a Facebook group for your cruise. This is where you will meet other cruisers and sign up to participate in the Fish Extender gift exchange.
