I loved the Wyndham Lake Buena Vista hotel. There. I said it. This “Why would anyone stay off property” girl stayed at a non-Disney hotel and is declaring the Wyndham as the best hotel near Disney World.
On a recent trip, I stayed at the Wyndham Lake Buena Vista. Twice.
It wasn’t glamorous at all. In fact, the camper rocked so much it gave me vertigo.
So I immediately returned to the Wyndham and begged for a room. They took pity on me and hosted me for three nights in a Garden Room at a discounted media rate.
wyndham lake buena vista amenities
closest hotel to disney world
The Wyndham Lake Buena Vista is the nearest off-property hotel to Disney World. Disney Springs is across the street and accessed by an elevated walkway.
the same perks as a disney resort
Guests at the Wyndham get many of the same great perks as Disney resort You get access to Disney Extra Magic Hours and you can make FastPass+ Reservations 60-days in advance. WOW!
free shuttle to the disney parks
A free shuttle delivers guests to the four Disney World theme parks. Each bus services two parks and picks up guests every thirty minutes. The shuttle also services multiple hotels. Despite the potential for numerous stops, on the night I took the shuttle to Epcot I found the ride to go quickly, and I was the only one on board.
best disney world off-site character breakfast
Instead of fighting the crowds at a Disney World character meal, consider a low-key yummy breakfast at the Wyndham Lake Buena Vista. Goofy and Pluto are on hand to interact with guests and take pictures.
relax in the wyndham lobby
One of the things I love about the Disney Resort Hotels is the spacious, relaxing lobbies. On several occasions, I have spent an evening sitting in the lobby working on my laptop and people watching.
I usually don’t find the lobbies of chain hotels to be appealing. The Wyndham Lake Buena Vista is an exception.
The lobby is open, inviting, and spacious. There is a bar and lounge off to one side that you hardly notice is there. The other side of the lobby is the Sundial snack shop with a grab-and-go breakfast items, coffee, snack items, and refrigerated drinks.
Scattered throughout the lobby are several seating areas, some with televisions. There is even a separate kids area with books, craft items and cartoons playing.
But the best part of the lobby is the Disney music playing in the background. It isn’t the traditional music, but remakes of all our favorite Disney classics. Oh, and there is a Disney Store in the lobby. An official Disney Store with a great selection of products just like the gift shops in a Disney resort.
airline baggage check-in
Much to my surprise, the Wyndham Lake Buena Vista offers airline baggage check-in. One of my favorite services at Disney Resorts is checking in my bags before my last day at the park and not worry about my luggage until I arrive at my home airport. I was super excited to have that same service at the Wyndham.
wyndham lake buena vista tower room
As the name implies, the tower rooms are part of the Wyndham Lake Buena Vista highrise. Guests access rooms from an interior hallway, and one side of the hall has rooms with a fireworks view. Yep. You can even view the Disney fireworks from an off-site hotel.
I stayed in a spacious king room designed for the business traveler. Next to the bed was a small sofa and coffee table that I used to eat my room service meal while watching tv. The bedside tables had built in USB chargers, and there was a reading light built into each side of the headboard – two of my favorite features in a hotel room.
The dresser hides not only the mini-fridge, but also a safe, and the coffee maker and supplies. The room also has a spacious closet, a shelf for miscellaneous items, hooks to hang your purse, and cubbies for your shoes.
The bathroom isn’t huge but is sufficient for one or two people. There was enough room on the counters for my toiletries, and shelves underneath for extra items. The only thing I wish the bathroom had was a lighted, magnifying mirror for applying makeup.
wyndham lake buena vista garden room
On my second stay at the Wyndham (where I was hosted and paid a reduced media rate), I stayed in a Garden Room.
The Garden Rooms are located on either side of the main building and rooms are accessed by exterior hallways. Rooms may look out onto a courtyard or the parking lot. They are less expensive than the Tower Rooms and are designed for families.
My room had two double beds, and a small table with two chairs. The dresser has large drawers to accommodate a family’s worth of clothes.
The bathroom area is split to allow multiple people to get ready at the same time. A sliding door separates the vanity and small closet from the main sleeping area. The toilet and shower are behind another door.
the best hotel near disney world
As a devoted Disney gal, my first love is still the Disney Resort Hotels. But the Wyndham comes in a VERY close second. If they provided my transportation to and from the airport like the Magical Express, they might win.
