Hang on to your seat friends, because this Disney girl is about to say something that will knock you over. I think Volcano Bay is the best water park in Orlando. That’s right. Universal Studios water park Volcano Bay is better than Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach.
I was wowed. Volcano Bay at Universal Orlando Resort is by far the best water park I have ever visited. Yep. It is was even better than Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach over at Disney World.
Why the Volcano Bay Water Park is the Best in Orlando
I’m not a huge connoisseur of water parks. Water slides scare me to death.
But I do love a good lazy river and a lounge chair on a beach with a big umbrella. (Bonus points if there is a cabana boy to bring me drinks.)
Here are the reasons why I think Volcano Bay is the best water park in Orlando.
The Lazy River is Easy to Enter
Have you ever seen an overweight woman trying to sit in an inner tube? It is freaking hysterical unless the woman is you. In that case, it is a near-drowning experience.
I appreciate that the Volcano Bay lazy river has zero entry entrances so you can sit down in your tube instead of trying to push down on the tube while simultaneously attempting to jump on top.
The Park is Clean
Volcano Bay was immaculate.
Even the bathrooms were clean and dry. DRY! There was someone there keeping the floors dry despite wet people walking in and out. And the restroom didn’t smell like most pool and water park bathrooms.
Even the lazy river was clear of debris. I hate it when I’m floating down a lazy river and end up with little leaves stuck all over my body. That didn’t happen at Volcano Bay.
The Food is Yummy
I did choose to go with the standard theme park burger, but it was GOOD. I could have chosen the mahi-mahi, chicken, or pork belly sandwich. Or a chicken BBQ longboard pizza, tacos, fried chicken or ribs.
And now I’m hungry.
The food selection goes way beyond what you would expect to find at a theme park.
The Refillable Mugs are Big
Unlike that other theme park, the refillable mugs are big. You won’t finish your drink three steps after leaving the refill station. And in addition to sodas, you can also get unlimited slushies. Volcano Bay, you get me.
Bonus: You can use the cup in the other parks and on future trips. You just need to pay a reactivation fee for each day you want to use the cup.
There are Racks to Hold Your Stuff by Every Ride
These racks to hold your shoes and small items are the coolest thing ever.
One of my biggest water park problems is what to do with my shoes.
I like to keep them on to walk around, but where do I put them when I go on a ride?
The Pavement is Kept Cool by Water Sprinklers
But if you prefer to walk around barefoot, that isn’t a problem! The walkways have sprinklers spraying the pavement so you can walk around without burning your feet.
How cool is that!
The Beach at the Wave Pool Feels Like a Beach
The Volcano Bay wave pool beach feels like a real beach. It reminded me of the beach at Disney’s island Castaway Cay.
Where the water meets the sand, the waves are gentle enough that young children won’t lose their balance. And vertigo-prone people like me won’t get seasick.
There are Tons of Places to Sit
There is seating everywhere in Volcano Bay. You can sit in a chair or lounger on the expansive beach area and admire the volcano. Or you can find a hidden spot with just a handful of lounge chairs.
And there are plenty of umbrellas to keep you out of the sun because you don’t need to get skin cancer.
On my next visit, I’m going to splurge on a cabana. Volcano bay even has one on the second story where you can get a great view of the park.
Transportation to Volcano Bay is Quick & Easy
From our Universal hotel, we took one bus that went directly to Volcano Bay.
No multiple stops. No changing buses.
It took us no time to get from our hotel to the park.
The Tikis Talk
I have a soft spot for funny Tikis, and Volcano Bay has them. It is always a pleasant surprise when the landscaping starts talking.
